Our note

Good reliable camera, our first choice until the
D300 came out. Produces sharper pictures than the D2Xs.

Produces good sharp pictures, and a pleasure to
use. Ours is still in use as a second camera, and often the one we first
introduce people to.

With the relatively small difference in price
between the D200 and D300, it would be wiser to go for the D300 even if you
don't feel you need all the 'extras' as the D300 cleans its own censor, has a
clearer and larger rear screen, and wont be obsolete as soon.

If on the other hand you have a D200, and your
budget is tight then its not an essential upgrade. You could come on a
course and leant to use both the D200 and D300 fully before deciding.
