Where are we going Mum ?

Now summer is well and truly here our diary pages are bursting with loads of different events and activities you can both visit or take part in this month. July and August are the busiest months for activities helped in the UK with it being the main summer holiday periods for our schools and colleges, and a Bank Holiday at the end of August.

Scotland's 6 week break started on the 1st, and by the middle of the month the 6 week break for England and Wales will start. So don't forget to take a look at our diary pages to find something to do. It has also been predicted that this month is possibly going to be one of the hottest periods this year. We'll see, but whatever the weather there is always something to see and do.

Starting on the 15th until the 19th the annual Swan Upping count takes place on a 70 mile stretch of the River Thames in Berkshire. This is an ancient ceremony where The Queen's Swan Marker carries out an annual census and health check on the population of Mute Swans on the river. It takes place on the river, between Sunbury Lock and Abingdon Bridge over the five days. Take a look at the Swan Marker's website for a detailed schedule.

July is the month when Dragonfly enthusiasts take part in National Dragonfly week from the 20th to 28th, during which the British Dragonfly Society have a whole week of activities culminating in a special Dragonfly Day based at their Dragonfly Centre at Wicken Fen Nature Reserve in Cambridgeshire, where over 20 different species of Dragonfly have been recorded.

Take a look at our articles for Photographing Wildlife, Macro Photography and others in our Wildlife Section for some tips and ideas on how to approach your wildlife photography.

Taking a rest in the mid-day sun, it's exhausting!

Let's Explain How This Resource Works

One of the most popular features is a monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead.

Everything that appears, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked into sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

Up until July 2012 we also produced a monthly newsletter as apart of this resource, but like magazines going over the years we found it becoming a little repetitive, so decided to concentrate on the resource development and drop the newsletter issues. You can get back to see every newsletter, from the beginning, via our recent editions link.

All of our links are coded showing you if it's an external link or one of our own pages and when it is, the type of page it is. You will find a key to the most popular ones at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. Holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.

If this is your first visit, click here to find out how you might best use this site to help you find what you are looking for.
